  1. I am still yet configuring my set up with few complications. In the
  2. midst of this I thougt it would be nice to offer my suggestions on the
  3. best programs I have found to help set up for Fido. I still await an
  4. address for real testing but here goess:

  6.  For Tossing Mail I recommend GoMail. You merely before have to dial the
  7. (913) 271-2070 - 76, to get the demo key and then later register.
  8.  For a nice set of batch files for Front Door I recommend the file
  9. NewBie.zip. It also includes the batch file for  WildMail if you decide
  10. to use that as opposed to Go Mail.
  11.  I do recommend Front Door as the Front End.
  12.  For finding a bbs for that you can request a node number I recommend
  13. using the nodelists available. (ALL OF THE PROGRAMS I recommend are
  14. found right here on MSI including Tech Support!)
  15.  I recommend using the nodefinder here to looke up your nodelist
  16.  You may also want to use the mknl or makenode file for later compiling
  17. node updates.
  18. Also get WildNode here so that you can configure you WildCat conferences
  19. for Fido Net Mail. Only one really used for netmail other for Echo.
  20. You can also get the latest PKZIP file here. Other zip files are
  21. available.
  22. Of course WildCat BBS software as reviewed in BBS mags such as BBS
  23. Callers Digest and Bulletin Board Systems (reading the advertisement in
  24. the lastest issue was more that impressive and made me feel proud to be
  25. a registered user of WildCat,Qmodem & WCPro.) magazines, is the my
  26. number one choice for BBS Software.

  28. Well I just thought it would be nice to offer my suggestions, on what
  29. has so far worked for me, it has taken much time just get this far.

  31. Oh yes, som hints:

  33. If possible print out docs on Front Door and GoMail, much easier for
  34. reference. With NewBie's Cat.bat one of the lines just says START I
  35. believe and should read goto START.
  36. In front Door edit the FDNODE.ctl file so that you can dial numbers
  37. statement. Me being in NY,Queens, (718) is local for me and file looks
  38. like this:

  44. In front door I (maybe not others) spent all night trying to get my
  45. system to call another Fido address and was unsuccess UNTIL into the
  46. Modem Manager and Added the strings V32 and matching string atb0|. Also
  47. I used as 2nd and 3rd strings HST and V32B with matching atb1| and atb0|
  48. respectively.
  49. I set modem hardware at 2,2400,Yes,NO,Yes,Yes,No,128,0,0 with respective
  50. menus labels in ascending order.
  51. I set modeem strings as
  52. ESC=+++,RET=~ATO|,Onhook=ATH0|,Off=~ATM0H1|,Dial=ATDT,Suff=|,Delay=2,Ini
  53. t1=ATM1|(so I can hear dialing, change to ATM0| to turn off
  54. speaker),Down=ATM0H1| and RESET=AT|. Those left out I left blank.
